What Are HVLP Sprayers?
HVLP paint sprayers are one of three types of conventional paint sprayers. Air paint sprayers and airless sprayers are the other, but due to reasons we will explain shortly, we want to emphasize the benefits of HVLP sprayers.
Airless Sprayers VS Air Sprayers
As stated above, there are three types of paint sprayers: HVLP, airless and air-based. However, the two most well-known are airless and air-based. The fact that airless sprayers rely on electricity or gas instead of air is one of the primary reasons why airless sprayers are such a useful tool.
Airless paint sprayers work by pumping paint at very high pressures through a hose and out of through a small hole in the spray gun tip. These pressure can reach a maximum of 3000 psi, and the spray tip is fashioned in a manner that distributes paint in an even, fan-shaped spray.
Since air sprayers operate on air, they require large air tanks in order to operate them. This factor not only makes transporting these sprayers difficult, but it also limits the amount of pressure the sprayer can generate.
In general, the limits to are pressure creates difficulties with paint finishes. The low pressure allows paint to mix with the air, which can create flaws in the paint finish. This also makes them unreliable for staining or use with varnish.
